Acknowledging the Traditional People and Land
Acknowledging the Traditional People and Land
We want to acknowledge that we’re currently in a place that originally belonged to the Cahuilla, Serrano, Chemehuevi, and Mojave people. They’ve been taking care of this land for a long time. When we look up at the stars and see the constellations, like the pictures made by connecting the stars, we need to remember that these constellations have stories from different parts of the world. These stories aren’t just from the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians; they were created by native people all over the globe.
The native people who lived here before us had their own ways of looking at the stars, and their stories are just as important as the ones we know. We also want to show respect to their elders from the past and the people here today. It’s important to recognize the history of people being forced to leave their homes, and how we all came together in this place we call Earth.
