Living by the Stars – Matariki Series

Living by the Stars gazes up into Aotearoa’s night skies, exploring the stars from a Mātauranga Māori point of view. Presented in Te Reo Māori by pioneering Māori astronomer and academic, Professor Rangi Matamua, this first series explores the cultural and celestial insights behind the Matariki star cluster and beyond. Each episode in this 20-part series is a bite-sized instalment of traditional Māori astronomy to paint our view of the night skies in a new light. Dr Rangi Mataamua role is to really communicate, to share, and to probably show the science in the traditional knowledge …its dual-sided, one side is just unpacking the science that exists within that traditional narrative and show the people who practise science, that this is another approach to understanding and interacting with science.
